Thanks for this nice writeup. I like how detailed this is. My friend and I are planning to upgrade the suspension too and this article is really informative. We still need to buy a few parts. I also recently purchased a few ATV accessories from 4WheelOnline, so we can add it after fixing the suspension.

Great list. We ride mostly in Tennessee and Virginia. West Virginia is still on our bucket list, but I'd love to get out west and ride as the scenery is so beautiful.

Ok, thanks! I kind of thought that might be an issue when I was reassembling it, so I tried it both ways and didn't notice a difference at all with the hub, so I just assumed it didn't matter. When you said it DID matter, I kind of panicked, but there is definitely not an extreme angle on my axel or tire, so I must have got lucky.:-)

Thanks good catch. If you over fill it will foam and get extremely hot very fast.

If your axle and rear tire are at a strange angle. Its pretty obvious if its upside down.

Sweet, great blog! I wish I would have found this yesterday, before I did the job. Getting that new seal back in was quite a pain... The question I have is in relation to step 12. When putting the knuckle back on I couldn't really tell an right side up or up side down...? I unfortunately didn't mark it(stupid...), so I'm not sure if I reinstalled it correctly. It's there any way after the fact, to tell if it's upside down? Extreme angle? I'm just not sure.. Thanks.

Just a heads up, Yamaha refers to the front diff as "Differential" and the rear as "Final Gear" so it's my understanding the rear calls for 0.5L of oil.

We have been using a ski helmet that fits well when she rides with an adult, but if she wants to drive her own quad she needs a full facer. I don't understand why they don't make the helmets smaller either. Thank you for the foam advice! I'll check out how the foam in the liner is positioned and go from there to make it thicker.

I had this same problem. I went shopping for youth helmets for my 4 year old. We often went camping where a ride on the ATV was required to reach the porta potty. I went to the local dealership who gave me the company line of we can't help you. When I was leaving a employee came out to my car and told me to purchase the smallest helmet size of a quality manufacturer and line the helmet myself with foam. He advised me of where and how to add foam to make it fit properly. It worked like a charm. She wore it for 2 years before I removed the foam. She is now 8 and the helmet fits great.

Basically I took out the washable liner and glued in soft foam. It was about 1/4 inch think and I manipulated it to fit as close to a normal helmet as possible. It took a few tries and it was successful. My personal thought was that this type of helmet was far superior to no helmet.

I did try out ski helmets and bike helmets but I am huge believer in a full face helmet.

I don't understand why manufacturers don't make smaller helmets.

My daughter has a very small head and no one makes a DOT helmet that is small enough. Does anyone know if it's safe to add extra padding to make it fit? She wants to ride so bad but I hesitate letting her take the wheel if she isn't safe. Please don't tell me no 5 year old should be on a quad or side by side that won't be helpful :) We are very safe on our property and there is always an adult riding the trails with the kids.

This was a very helpful post. The previous owner of my quad installed the axle up side down in the A-arm creating the angle that you refer to and it caused the axle to grind on the retaining clip and creep out of the differential. I couldn't figure out why this was happening until I read your post. thank you very much
